John Kish in the foreground with sisters Mary, back row on the left, and Irene, back row on the right. Following the “U” shape from left to right: Mary (Kish) Bevington; sisters, Anne and Nelle Shifter; John Kish; Betty Sutto *, Rose Shauer **, Margaret Ur ***, Elizabeth Ur (Margaret’s sister)****, and Irene Kish. “John’s Harem” is what all of John Kish’s siblings referred to this picture as. There is no date on this picture, best guess is in the late 1920’s.

* Betty Sutto later married Rev. Nagy, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church on Campau St. in Flint, MI ** Rose Shauer who lived five houses away from the Kish home on Leith St. towards St. John St. “Rose came down (to the Kish house) every Saturday morning and I (Susie Kish) would do her hair along with Irene’s (Kish)” *** Margaret Ur later married John Urban; Susie (Kish) Hackett recounted, “John (Urban) was our milkman on Leith St. He’s the one that Steve (Kish) used to ride away with on John’s rounds and we wouldn’t know where he was. One time Steve came home and mother was so angry with him for worrying her so, that she was going to go after him with a wooden spoon. Of course, Joe (his brother), being the peace-keeper, stood in between them, so that Steve wouldn’t get it.” (Steve was also known to go off with the Balkan Bakery delivery man on his rounds). ****John Kish’s best friend was Albert Ur, brother of Margaret and Elizabeth Ur.
